week 4-6

I can only speak for myself when I say that Ethics in writing is a Minefield it is very tricky trying to impart an Idea that was conceived by another without stepping on the proverbial 'toes' of the originator. And with so many different possible ways, both generally accepted and rarely used, to cite a source it can make ones head spin. Speaking of sources who would have guessed that everything you find on the web might not be true, and must be verified by at least one reliable source before it can be given credence 'who knew, lol'

week 3

This week i have learned the different steps in planning a technical document.
I have learned that analysis of the audience and the task required is key to creating a usable document. I have also learned the difference between qualitative testing and quantitative testing and when each should be used i was also reminded that grammar, spelling,content, and voice play an important part in creating an effective document.

Week 2

I am enjoying the blog aspect of class so far. I was a little nervous at first this being my first actual blogging attempt. I think I'm getting the hang of it. I have learned this week that there are many more aspects to technical communication than I previously realized. The need to analyze not only on a basic level but in depth analysis also of your target audience(discourse community) and the different levels i.e. primary and secondary. The detail needed to be an effective Technical communicator is astounding. It has also been a revelation as to just how many careers that can benefit from a strong understanding of technical communication. You can always imagine that large companies rely heavily on Technical communication but if you take today's technology advances into account , for example your average dairy farmer will have a need for good technical communication when he is dealing with vendors and buyers, and the company that provides his automated dairy equipment, and quality inspection of his milk.

This is my first entry and I don't really have much to say at this point. I am still getting started in the class but i look forward to a good quarter.
